I would say the top three things I learned in this class are:

  1. Be aware as a consumer. A lot of the discussions from the class hinged around subjects that directly effected us as consumers. I believe we have a responsibility to be careful what businesses we engage with. If for nothing else, to make sure we aren't being taken advantage of.
  2. Be aware as a business owner. The business side of the coin was also discussed a good bit in the class. If you're ever in a situation where you have to represent some professional interest, you have to be able to reconcile your own ethics and a viable business model to make good decisions.
  3. No matter where you stand, be able to rationalize your stance. This should go without saying. As a people, we tend to be opinionated; however, how often do we truly analyze and justify our prospective? This class had a lot of discussion on some very big topics, which just drilled home the importance of being able to solidify -- or even modify -- my own personal stance.

If I were to give a piece of advice to the next generation of students in this class, it would be to take point 3 from above to heart. Stand up in class. Make your point of view clear. Listen to what everyone else has to say.

If we're not able to improve our own knowledge and beliefs in the quest for truth, why are we even going to school?
