Blockchain

My thoughts about block chain can be summed up very simply It's over-hyped and used where it's not needed. This is probably mostly because the technology is used in click-bait type money grab scams (also known as cryptocurrency), which never have anything meaningful to offer the world.

That being said, I think there are a few interesting applications for this technology. Blockchain is great for general purpose ledgers with immutability enforced by a distributed network. The situations that such a ledger is needed however, is quite limited.

I believe one of these areas could be a form of voting application. The concept of creating a reliable ledger that can't be swayed by biased poll counters is really cool. The application might break down if the style of voting being done requires anonymity as block chains aren't really designed with that in mind; however, I think more research can be done into this.
